The yam market in Ghana's Ashaiman Municipality is at risk of collapse due to poor storage facilities, leading to the rotting of large quantities of the commodity. Traders are urging the Ashaiman Municipal Assembly to build a modern yam market with proper storage facilities. They also called for government support for yam farmers, including incentives and subsidized fertilizers. The traders also highlighted the yam value chain as a significant source of employment and urged the government to include yam farmers in the planting for food and jobs programme.
