(Yangpyeong=Yonhap News) Reporter Lee Woo-seong = The Yangpyeong County in Gyeonggi Province announced on the 4th that it plans to employ 315 foreign seasonal workers in 103 farms this year. This is a 57.5% increase from last year (200 workers in 71 farms). The number of foreign seasonal workers in the county has been increasing every year, with 35 workers (15 farms) in 2023, the first year of the system's implementation, and 102 workers (32 farms) in 2024. The county plans to move away from the previous method of a single entry and instead implement a split entry over four periods between March and April this year, reflecting the differences in crop planting times and labor demand by farm. County Chief Jeon Jin-seon said, "The fact that the number of participating farms and workers is increasing every year indicates that the effect is significant on site," and added, "We will actively reflect the needs of the site and create an environment where farmers can focus on farming."
