Harvesting of the industrial plant hops, which is grown only in the Pazaryeri district of Bilecik in Turkey, has started. The product, which has been grown in the district since 1965 and is generally used in the pharmaceutical industry, beverage industry and in the production of bakery products, is taken as fresh from the fields during the harvest period of August. 450 farmers make a living from hops, which are used only for female flowers (cocoon), dried in factories, baled, and then processed. The yield, which was 1335 tons on 1800 decares last year, is expected to be around 900 tons on 1600 decares this year due to adverse weather conditions. The purchase price of hops, which was registered as a geographical indication by the Turkish Patent and Trademark Office in 2020, was determined as 27 liras per kilogram for "Brewers Gold", "Erciyes", "Aegean" and "Pazaryeri" and 28 liras for "Aroma".
