The Department of Agriculture in the Philippines has reported a shift in consumer preference towards imported garlic due to its lower price, which is three times less expensive than locally grown garlic, selling for £80/kg and £300/kg respectively. This shift is attributed to the high cost of local garlic, which has led to widespread shortages, forcing consumers to seek lower-priced options from other countries. The DA also highlighted that local garlic stocks have significantly dropped following the holiday season.
