Less wheat expected in Russia

The wheat harvest in Russia in the 2023/24 campaign is forecast at 91.6 Mt, that is, 500,000 t less than the previous estimate, according to the latest SovEcon report. The forecast has been revised due to the worsening harvest prospects in Siberia and the South. In Siberia, the harvest forecast was reduced by 900,000 t to 9.2 Mt. The reason has been the excess of rain in the last 30 days, in which rainfall ranged between 110 and 150% of normal. Excessive rains make harvesting operations difficult and present a considerable risk of lodging and sprouting of crops. In the South, wheat production estimates were reduced by 500,000 t to 37.9 Mt, due to a significant drop in yield at the end of the wheat harvest season in the region.
