Federal Agriculture Minister Murray Watt has rejected a request to release the Independent Panel's report on the phase-out of live sheep exports, stating that the document has been made a Cabinet document and is therefore exempt under the Freedom of Information (FOI) Act. The Australian Livestock Exporters Council (ALEC) has expressed disappointment at the decision, arguing that the public, sheep producers, and exporters of Western Australia should be allowed to see the report's contents as it directly affects them. A government spokesperson confirmed that the minister intends to release the report in full at a later date after considering the recommendations and developing an implementation plan.
