In 2023, China's fishmeal imports decreased by 9% to 1.65 million tons. Despite this, imports from Vietnam saw a significant increase of 24% in both quantity and value, reaching 262,000 tons and US$425 million respectively. Although Peru, China's largest fishmeal supplier, experienced a 51% drop in exports to China due to the El Niño phenomenon, it still maintained its leading position, with Vietnam following in second place.
