Despite challenging weather conditions in 2023, cereal production in Scotland aligns with the ten-year average. The harvest figures indicate a 6% year-on-year (YoY) decrease in overall cereal production and a 2% YoY decline in yield. Oats production continued its downward trend against the ten-year average, with a 7% YoY production drop and a 4% YoY decrease in yield. Despite these declines, the yields are still near the ten-year average, reflecting a certain level of resilience in the face of adverse weather conditions.
On December 19, South Africa's National Crop Estimates Committee (CEC) released the area estimate and fifth production forecast for winter crops in the 2023 production season. Specifically, the anticipated production for oats in 2023 is 36,200 mt, with a planted area of 27,500 hectares (ha). The expected yield for oats is estimated at 1.32 mt/ha.
From Jan-23 to Nov-23, the Kuzbass region in Russia exported over 170 thousand mt of grain products. The export volume for this period was five times higher compared to the same period the previous year. Kazakhstan was the primary buyer, particularly interested in Kuzbass wheat-related products. Additionally, China frequently imports rapeseed, barley, wheat flour, dried peas, flax seeds, and oats from the region.
