The price for imported walnut already risen early as it enters 2021. Even though the value had dropped in April by 4.08 USD which was previously at the highest point in March, the price still shows a higher level than last year's value. Along with rising prices, the volume of walnut imports to the US also fell to 185 thousand Lbs in Q1 2021. Total import profits from major exporters such as Moldova and Chile also decreased in April 2021, noting that Chile's exports outperformed Moldova in the 2019-2020 period. The increase actually came from Mexico, whose export value doubled from last year. In 2021 the price of imported walnuts will be even more expensive. Chilean walnut price reached 3.50 USD per KG in the fourth week of June 2021 which was only 2.31 USD per KG at the beginning of July 2020. The price increase in 2021 may affect the market continuously as the domestic price shows a decline of -2.38% and its value already lower in November. It is likely that US consumers will reduce their foreign consumption and switch to buying domestic production to stabilize market prices.
