Sales of dairy products are particularly high this year in Switzerland. In addition to classic dairy products such as milk, cream or yoghurts, there is also an increase in the consumption of cheese and butter. The main reason is most certainly the coronavirus pandemic. Household consumption is well above that of last year since the lockdown in March and shopping tourism is again severely restricted. These two elements increase sales in Switzerland, a situation that makes it impossible to create sufficient stocks of butter made from native raw materials for Christmas, a period traditionally marked by strong sales. In order for the stalls to be filled with butter, IP Lait asked the Federal Council to raise from 500 to 2000 t the request for importing an additional tranche submitted in mid-October.
