Netherlands: The dairy market rebounded somewhat in May after the fall in April

The Dutch milk supply increased by more than three percent in April, so that there was still strong growth in dairy. The milk pool has recovered since June last year, an effect of the high milk prices paid in this period. Cumulatively, the level in the first four months of 2023 was 3.8% (172 million kg) higher than in the same period of 2022. The EU milk supply in March remained at virtually the same level (+0.1%) as last year. This put an end to the growth, which took place between September last year and February. The picture is still diverse. On the one hand, there is an increase in Northwest Europe (Belgium, Germany and the Netherlands). On the other hand, the drought in Southern Europe (especially in France and Italy) caused volumes to fall. Ireland also recorded a decline in March.
