Through cooperation with the International Cocoa Quarantine Center (ICQC), IRAD put in place experimental farms of cocoa clones that have started production. According to IRAD, the clones are said to be more resistant to cocoa diseases and yield above 2MT/ha. It is worth reminding that currently, the country's average farm yields range between 500 and 800 kg/ha, amounting to less than 300K MT per year. If the expectations from these cloned plants come true, this will rapidly boost the country’s cocoa production to reach the yearly target of 600K MT set by the government.
