This year, the Peruvian agricultural products that showed the best performance were avocado, mango, ginger and mandarin, which represented 36% of the basket.
In the case of avocado, imports totaled 92,031 tons for US $ 278 million, + 24% more volume and 6% more value compared to 2019. The main supplier of avocado was Peru, with 29,125 mt for US $ 73 million, (+ 58% more in volume and + 4% in value compared to 2019). Only 3% of the fruit supplied by Peru was sent directly; The rest came mainly through the Netherlands. The increase in avocado shipments made Peru increase its share by seven pp, consolidating a 32% share. Followed by Spain (12%) and Chile (10%).
For its part, mango imports reached 76,723 mt for US $ 168 million (+ 8% more in volume and value compared to 2019). Peru positioned itself as the second most important supplier of the fruit, with a 33% share (+ 6pp), with shipments of 25,448 mt for US $ 43 million (+ 31% volume and + 7% value). Only 18% of shipments were made directly. It should be noted that the main mango supplier was Brazil, with a 40% share.
Ginger presented an important growth with imports of 16,597 mt for US $ 44 million (+ 11% volume and + 26% value compared to 2019). Of the total, 2,687 mt (US $ 8 million) were shipped by Peru (+ 60% volume and + 42% value). 16% of shipments were made directly. Peru positioned itself as the second most important supplier (16% share, + 5pp).
The mandarin also showed growth during this period with imports of 188,449 mt for US $ 284 million, (-5% volume but + 28% value compared to 2019). Of the total, 1,410 tons for US $ 2 million were provided by Peru, (+ 205% in volume and + 231% in value), 19% of the shipments were provided directly.
