Sinop, a city in Turkey, has seen a significant increase in salmon production, reaching 17,333 tons in 2022. The production, which started in 2011, has become a valuable contribution to the national economy, generating 54 million 453 thousand 517 dollars from exports to countries like Russia, Japan, and European nations. Fatih Önlem, the Provincial Director of Agriculture and Forestry, highlighted the importance of alternative protein sources due to factors like climate change, environmental pollution, and population growth. He anticipates further growth in salmon production, hoping it will reduce fishing pressure in the seas and position Sinop as the leader in Turkish salmon production.
