The Gyeongnam Fisheries Research Institute in South Korea has successfully localized mass production technology for sea cucumber seeds, breaking reliance on Chinese technology. Since 2016, the institute has produced and released large numbers of healthy sea cucumber seeds into fishing grounds, with a total of 400,000 released in 2020. The institute is also developing aquaculture and processing technologies, and is working on improving high value-added varieties. The sea cucumber is favored by the fishing community for its effective release effect at the fishing grounds.
