A recent study by the Agricultural and Horticultural Development Board (AHDB) in the UK has revealed that while 55% of consumers prioritize health when choosing food, only 28% of their food and drink servings are chosen for health reasons. The study found that enjoyment and practicality are the main factors influencing food consumption. The research also highlighted that 64% of consumers believe that eating healthy is more expensive, and there is confusion about nutrition claims with the constant changing advice and misinformation, particularly regarding red meat and dairy. The study was conducted against the backdrop of the pandemic, which has led to an increase in calorie intake for most households due to more takeout food. However, the study also identified opportunities to promote healthier food options, including red meat and dairy, for those working from home and those facing financial pressures.
