Farmers in the Tatar region of Novosibirsk, Russia, have increased the cultivated area in 2021, focusing on the production of industrial crops such as rapeseed, flax, and primarily wheat, oats, and barley. A special variety of barley, used in brewing, is particularly profitable and has been grown since the early 2000s, expanding from 125 hectares to 2,500. This cultivation is aided by the use of depleted soil, which is preferred for malt production. The farm's partnership with an Austrian company for supplying high-quality raw materials has been key to its profitability. The barley harvest is expected to be abundant, with harvesters set to begin their work at the end of August.
