A motivation to honey production in Santa Catarina, Brazil

The production of honey and its derivatives is yet another area in which the excellence of Santa Catarina agribusiness is manifested. Santa Catarina, effectively, stands out in the national sphere. It is the first state in terms of productivity, with 68 kg of honey per square kilometer, while the national average is only 4.8 kg. 6,824 rural producers are dedicated to the production of honey and derivatives, cultivating 315,000 beehives (50,000 dedicated to pollination of fruit trees and the others destined to the production of honey) and generate a volume that varies from 6,500 to 8,500 tons per year. The product from Santa Catarina was internationally elected and awarded as the best in the world in five successive contests.
