By Júlia Pestana São Paulo, 08/21/2025 - Consumption in Brazilian households advanced 4% in July compared to the same month in 2024, according to a survey by the Brazilian Association of Supermarkets (Abras). Compared to June, the increase was 2.41%, while the year-to-date indicator shows a growth of 2.66%. The numbers are deflated by the IPCA from IBGE and cover all supermarket formats. According to Abras Vice President Marcio Milan, the result reflects a more solid consumption, supported by the improvement in income and the labor market. "Only in the monthly breakdown does the month of July usually show a contraction due to school vacations, when many families choose to consume outside the home. But this year, this effect was less intense," the executive said at a press conference.
