The United Nations' Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) has predicted a rise in the global production of cereals, with wheat production expected to increase to 790 million tons in 2022 from 775.4 million tons in 2021. This is due to higher yields and increased planted areas in countries like Canada, the United States, and Asia. However, the FAO has also warned of a sharp increase in world food prices in February, with the Food Price Index averaging 140.7 in February, compared to 135.4 in January, due to factors such as rising energy prices, fertilizers, and feed. The vegetable oil index rose by 8.5% in February, and the grain price index also increased by 3.0%.
