The Department of Mulberry Silk in Thailand has been encouraging farmers to adopt large-scale production since 2016, aiming for sustainable income. This year, the department has operated in 34 plots across 18 provinces, benefiting over 2,994 farmers. The approach includes joint procurement of quality inputs, appropriate agricultural technology, and effective marketing management. The department has also introduced a silk futures contract with Chulmai Thai Company, yielding over 2.5 million baht from the sale of 55,000 kilograms of cocoon. This initiative is part of a larger effort to modernize agriculture, integrate agricultural plots, and promote market-led production, with the goal of improving the quality of life and achieving self-sufficiency in agriculture.
