The Portuguese Minister of Agriculture, Maria do Ceu Antunes, outlined the country's priorities for the first half of 2021 during the EU Council of Agriculture Ministers, focusing on concluding the CAP reform negotiations and achieving a balance between environmental and socio-economic sustainability. The video conference meeting also addressed the need for fair trade conditions, environmental standards in commercial agreements, and the impact of Brexit. The European feed industry, represented by Fefac, brought concerns about the increase in agricultural raw material prices and decreased sales due to Covid-19 restrictions to the council's attention, proposing that the EU invite the new US administration to ease trade tensions and take new initiatives at the G20 level to prevent the adoption of measures that compromise the world cereal market and food safety. An ongoing crisis in the pig sector was also highlighted, with calls for measures to support its recovery.
