A study by the University of Barcelona and the Agrotecnio research center has identified the characteristics that make a variety of durum wheat combine high productivity with stability in variable climatic conditions. The research, published in Plant Phenomics, proposes combining advanced technology and artificial intelligence to select genotypes prepared for the challenges of climate change without sacrificing yield. The team analyzed 64 varieties of durum wheat cultivated in two different Mediterranean environments under irrigation and dryland conditions. Ground sensors and drones equipped with RGB, multispectral, and thermal cameras allowed for the monitoring of crop development throughout the entire cycle without the need to mow the plots, reducing costs and study time.
