Belgium: All pasture animals in Flanders are given shelter

The scheme provides for a transition period of five years, so that livestock farmers have the opportunity to make adjustments, reports the Flemish information center for agriculture and horticulture. Minister of Animal Welfare Ben Weyts assumes that the decree will come into effect in 2024. The new rules will come into effect from 2029. The Flemish government has already approved the codex. The new regulations are now being submitted to the Flemish Parliament. If approved, it will replace the current animal welfare law. Exceptions will follow later The new regulations will apply to animals that are outside day and night, as well as to animals that are only left in the meadow during the day. Only animals that can freely choose between pasture or stable do not need to be given additional shelter.
