A consortium led by North Sea Farmers (NSF), with funding from Amazon's Right Now Climate Fund, is planning to establish a seaweed farm in the North Sea. The initial investment of €1.5 million will establish a 10-hectare farm, with the potential to produce 6,000 kg of seaweed in the first year. The project aims to analyze the carbon removal potential of seaweed farming at large scales and create job opportunities. If successful, it could expand across the North Sea, potentially creating 85,000 jobs and helping combat climate change by removing millions of tons of CO2 until 2040.
