In the first four months of 2024, the export of high Andean grains, including quinoa, giant corn, chia, kiwicha, tarwi, and cañihua, saw a significant increase of 42.5% compared to the same period in 2023, reaching a value of US$ 42.6 million. This growth is attributed to the high nutritional value of these grains, making them part of the superfoods. The United States, the European Union, Canada, the United Kingdom, and Japan are the primary markets for these exports. However, there was a decrease in tarwi and chia sales. This positive trend is being supported by the Export Productive Route (RPE) strategy, which provides training, technical assistance, and other services to quinoa organizations in Puno, Cusco, and Ayacucho, representing over 1,100 families.
