In 2023, Iran's Ardebil province saw a 23% increase in honey production, reaching 9,036 tons in the past Iranian calendar year, as reported. The province is home to 3,357 apiaries, with 2,747 workers and 1,434 beekeepers. Besides honey, the province also produced significant amounts of other bee products. Ardebil's honey, known as Sabalan honey, is highly valued and is exported to several countries, with a per capita consumption of one kilogram and an estimated demand of 1,250 tons annually. The honey has been internationally registered and is a popular souvenir.
