The Netherlands has seen 29 farms infected with Tomato Brown Rugose Fruit Virus (ToBRFV) since mid-2019, with five new infections reported since June across municipalities including Westland, Steenbergen, and Zuidplas. The virus has been eradicated at two farms. The virus has led to crop losses ranging from 5-30%, and the removal and disposal of the crops are estimated to cost growers between 5,000 to 10,000 Euro per hectare. Globally, the virus is also spreading, with recent detections in Estonia, Slovenia, and Switzerland, triggering a quarantine status and reporting obligation within Europe.
