Gustavo Saavedra, the head of Embrapa Agroindústria Tropical, has initiated discussions in Rio Grande do Norte and Paraíba to create a platform for the development of the cashew culture in the Northeast Region of Brazil. The aim is to enhance cashew productivity both nationally and internationally using advanced technologies and integrating various actors in the production chain. The plan includes setting up Technological Reference Units (URTs) in the major cashew-producing centers to implement modern cultivation techniques, phytosanitary management, soil and plant nutrition, and cultural practices. This initiative seeks to substantially boost cashew production in Paraíba, currently at 823 tons per year, to 3,000 tons per year by 2030 through the training of producers and the distribution of cashew tree clones developed by Embrapa.
