An outbreak of African swine fever (ASF) has been reported at a large pig farm in Sri Lanka, marking the first time the disease has been detected in the country. The outbreak was discovered in late October, but reporting to the World Organization for Animal Health (WOIE) was delayed until December 5. The source of infection was traced to equipment and feed. Three outbreaks have affected 1,700 pigs, resulting in 643 deaths before the entire livestock was destroyed to prevent further spread. The report also highlights other animal disease outbreaks, including bird flu in 18 countries and Bluetongue in Greece, impacting small and large cattle, as well as goat and sheep pox in Greece.
