The inaugural Italian Berry Day at Macfrut in Rimini highlighted the dynamic growth of the small fruits sector, especially blueberries, with a 26.3% increase in Europe despite a slight overall decline in fruit consumption. However, per capita consumption in Italy remains low compared to other countries, providing room for growth. The event underscored the need for high-quality varieties and discussed the potential for collaboration between stakeholders. Notably, the expansion of blueberry cultivation in the southern hemisphere and the emergence of quick delivery services like Gorillas in Italy were also discussed. The event suggested a 40% margin for large-scale distribution on blueberries, aiming to provide a fair profit for producers while keeping prices reasonable for consumers.
