Bolivia is the world's leading producer of Brazil nuts, with a production of 21,033 tons valued at $128 million, according to the Bolivian Institute of Foreign Trade (IBCE). The country's chestnut exports reached 50% of the global share last year, maintaining its leadership position. The Amazon region, with its optimal natural conditions for chestnut tree growth, covers 10% of Bolivia's surface area dedicated to chestnut cultivation. The industry is a significant source of employment, generating 4,500 manufacturing jobs, mostly for women. The Netherlands, the United States, and Germany are the primary markets for Bolivian Brazil nuts.
