Brazil: Main indicators of the swine sector in 2021

Pig slaughter in 2021 reached 52.9 million head, an increase of 7.3% compared to 2020, when a total slaughter of 49.4 million was reached. In this sense, in 2021, pork production stood at 4.89 million tons (Mt), a value that represents a growth of 9.1% compared to the 4.48 Mt of the previous year. On the other hand, external trade data indicate a 10.6% increase in the volume of exports of pork products and by-products, which went from 1.01 Mt in 2020 to 1.12 Mt in 2021. , 88% of total exports corresponded to frozen meat (980000 t), while offal (82000 t) and bone-in legs and shoulders (27000 t), had a weight of 7.3 and 2.4%, respectively. As for imports, they reached 5600 t in 2021, which means a growth of 41% compared to 2020 (4000 t).
