Brazilian fish farming doubles the value of its exports in the first half

Brazilian fish farming exports experienced a doubling in financial values and a 14% increase in tons in the first half of 2022 compared to the same period in 2021. This growth is primarily due to the higher value exports of frozen fillets, which saw a 544% increase in financial volume and a 571% increase in the amount sold abroad. Tilapia continues to be the main species exported, accounting for 98% of sales and 99% of the amount of fish exported. The United States is the leading destination for these exports, responsible for 76% of the invoicing and 63% of the quantity. This growth in the fish farming exports is attributed to the strong research infrastructure and specialized human resources being developed through the BRS Aqua project, with financing from various sources including the Technological Fund of the National Bank for Economic and Social Development (Funtec / BNDES), the Aquaculture and Fisheries Secretariat of the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply (SAP / Mapa), and Embrapa itself.
