The Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) has highlighted the importance of sustainable fishing in providing vital nutrients and supporting healthy diets. The organization's new data shows that if all fishing was sustainable, an additional 16 million tonnes of seafood could be harvested annually. Sustainable seafood consumption can help prevent nutrient deficiencies and reduce deaths from heart disease and strokes due to the adequate intake of Omega-3 fatty acids. Despite the health benefits, a YouGov survey shows that only 19% of British adults consume the government' recommended amount of seafood. The MSC emphasizes the need for consumers to choose sustainable seafood to support both their health and the environment.
