Canada's potato stocks are at a high of 52,393,000 cwt, exceeding the 5-year average, with the majority of potatoes stored in the western provinces for processing. However, Quebec and the Maritimes have lower stocks due to a rainy growing season and higher cull rates. The fresh sector is well balanced with no carryover concerns for the new crop. Processing sector stocks are 24% higher than last year, attributed to record production and increased acreage. Seed sector stocks are 5.6% lower than last year in April. The total potato disappearance in Canada in March was slightly lower than last year. The United Potato Growers of Canada will continue to monitor the industry's planting progress and market conditions.
