Canada has broadened its import regions in Brazil for beef to include Paraná, Rio Grande do Sul, Acre, Rondônia, and certain areas in Amazonas and Mato Grosso. These regions are recognized as free from foot-and-mouth disease without vaccination by the World Organization for Animal Health. This decision comes after a risk assessment by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency and intense bilateral discussions since the market for Brazilian protein opened in 2022. The Brazilian authority will now propose an updated health certificate to Canada reflecting the new export requirements.
