The war in Ukraine has further increased cereal prices, a primary food source for fish, and energy and gas prices. These factors have resulted in a scarcity of carp, with the price per kilogram reaching around PLN 40. The rising prices and poor catches have led to nervous transactions between breeders and processing plants, driving the prices even higher. With direct and online sales on the rise, consumers are expected to shift their purchasing habits due to the high prices. Additionally, carp farmers are facing challenges in maintaining their ponds and seeking financial support and solutions to mitigate damage caused by protected animals such as cormorants.
