Due to the potential exposure of certain population groups, the maximum levels of red roundworm spores have been lowered and maximum levels of ergot alkaloids in some foodstuffs have been established. Pursuant to Commission Regulation (EU) 2021/1399 of 24 August 2021 amending Regulation (EC) No 1881/2006 as regards the maximum levels of roundnose spores and ergot alkaloids in certain foodstuffs, the MRLs were lowered for red ball spores and maximum levels are set for ergot alkaloids in those foodstuffs which contain significant levels of such alkaloids. As a result, the maximum levels of red roundwood spores for unprocessed cereals (except maize, rye and rice) were set at 0.2 g / kg. For unprocessed rye, the MRL was set at 0.5 g / kg until 30 June 2024 and from 1 July 2024 at 0.2 g / kg.
