Coffee remains the product with the highest number of GIs in Brazil

Café has 14 records of Geographical Indications at the National Institute of Industrial Property (INPI). Of the total, nine are Indication of Origin (IP) and five are Denomination of Origin (DO). The Region of Garça (SP) was the most recent to obtain registration, in the form of Indication of Origin. Thus, coffee continues to be the Brazilian agricultural product with the highest number of Geographical Indications (GI) records. Agrifood products make up the majority of Brazilian Geographical Indications. There are 79 records, out of the 100 existing so far. Obtaining these records requires technical characterizations of the product and its region, work carried out by scientific research.
