The USDA announced four consecutive daily sales of corn to China, totaling 3.876 million tons. This comes at a time when China is dealing with outbreaks of African Swine Fever and other zoonoses, leading to questions about their future cereal demand. Analysts suggest that these recent purchases may have a more political than commercial motivation. To date, China has imported only 7.8 million tonnes of the 23.6 million tonnes of corn committed from the USDA.
