In 2020, Italian pasta exports hit a record high of over 3.1 billion, with a 16% increase compared to the previous year, as per an analysis by Coldiretti. The US became the world's largest consumer of Italian pasta, surpassing France, Germany, and Great Britain. There was also a significant increase in consumption in Australia and Asia, particularly in Japan and China. Domestically, Italian pasta consumption increased by 10% in value with a 29% peak for pasta made only with tricolor wheat. The pandemic has also led to a surge in flour and egg consumption due to the DIY food trend. The consumption of products aligned with the Mediterranean diet, including pasta, has seen a global rise as a healthier choice during the crisis. This contribued to a record high of 46.1 billion in Made in Italy agri-food exports in 2020.
