The Tanzania Cereals and Other Produce Board (CPB) has opened grain trading centres in Juba, South Sudan, and Lubumbashi, Democratic Republic of Congo, selling products like maize flour, wheat flour, rice, and beans. The board aims to find both local and international markets to provide good prices for Tanzanian farmers and traders, motivating them to increase production. Despite buying only 58,000 tonnes of maize and other grains due to cash flow issues, the CPB plans to purchase 420,000 tons of maize for the 2021/22 season. The board also intends to buy other crops such as sunflower, rice, wheat, white sorghum, and soybean, and has already purchased all the wheat grown by farmers for its processing factory in Arusha.
