South Africa dairy price index of March 2021 higher than in March 2020

The South African Milk Processors ’Organization (Sampro) has published its report on the international prices of dairy products for April 2021. According to the report, movements of the Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO) of the United Nations in 2018, 2019, 2020, and the first three months of 2021, were less volatile than in previous years. This is an indication that the supply and demand for dairy products in the international market are fairly balanced. In March 2021, the FAO dairy price index was higher than the price indices of meat and sugar, but lower than the price indices of cereals and vegetable oils. From January 2020 to May 2020, the FAO dairy price index decreased by 9.1% from 103.8 to 94.4. From May 2020 to December 2020, it increased by 15.3% to 108.8, being 4.8% higher than in January 2020.
