Dutch cultivation of walnuts and hazelnuts is increasing steadily

The Dutch agricultural sector has seen a notable increase in the cultivation of nuts, with the industry's size expanding from 60 hectares in 2015 to 160 hectares by 2024. This growth has been accompanied by a significant rise in the number of companies involved in nut farming, from 60 to 160 over the same period. The largest nut cultivation company in the country is located in Rilland and is owned by Gaston Michielsens, who grows hazelnuts across 28.5 hectares, in addition to pears and other arable crops.
