Egypt has emerged as the largest exporter of fresh strawberries to Malaysia in the 2021/22 marketing year, a position it has consolidated in the current 2022/23 marketing year. Egyptian exports to Malaysia have seen a significant increase, reaching over 740 tons in the 2021/22 marketing year, up from five years ago. Egypt's dominance in the Malaysian market is particularly notable during the peak shipment period from December to March, when it effectively monopolizes the market with minimal competition. Overall, South-East Asia imports approximately 16,000 tons of fresh strawberries per year, with Malaysia's imports increasing by 65% over the past five years, standing as the third largest market in the region.
