Egypt projects increase in wheat production for 2024-2025

Egypt is forecasting an increase in wheat production for the 2024-2025 period, according to the Foreign Agricultural Service (FAS) of the United States Department of Agriculture. Production is expected to reach 9.2 million tons, up from 8.87 million tons the previous year. This growth is attributed to government incentives to expand cultivated area and higher yields. In addition, high prices paid by the government have encouraged farmers to grow more wheat, according to the FAS. Despite the increase in production, wheat imports remain crucial for Egypt. The country is expected to import 12.5 million tons, which represents an increase of 11.4% compared to the previous forecast, although the volume will remain the same as in the 2023-2024 harvest.
