Egypt's Food Industry Export Council is planning to boost the country's date exports, currently standing at USD 40 million, to over USD 100 million by 2024. The council is working on setting standards for Egyptian dates and their by-products, and focusing on the European and South American markets. The plan includes cultivating new date species, offering derivatives, and improving packaging. The Food Africa event, to be held from December 12 to 14, will bring together date exhibitors from various countries. The government is also investing in climate-controlled warehouses for dates and rehabilitating date factories.
