In 2022, Minas Gerais saw a significant increase in revenue from bee product exports, reaching US$ 20.5 million, a 25% rise from the previous year. Domestically, beekeepers also experienced profitability with a 28.8% increase in the average price paid to producers. The main export markets were the United States, Canada, Japan, and the European Union. Minas Gerais produced approximately 7 thousand tons of honey, a record high, and the beekeeping industry employs 45,000 people. The state company Emater-MG is implementing measures to boost production, such as providing technical assistance and beekeeping kits. Márcia Portugal, the state coordinator for Small Animals at Emater-MG, emphasized the importance of bees for pollination and food production.
