Ethiopia is enhancing its agricultural production and productivity through the implementation of a rural agriculture-focused development policy and strategy. The government is encouraging agricultural mechanization and offering tax exemptions for the import of equipment and technologies. The Ministry of Agriculture is collaborating with stakeholders to provide agricultural inputs and technology to farmers. Despite challenges such as COVID-19 and desert locusts, the country has seen growth in the production of major crops. The Ministry is taking steps to prevent the negative impact of these threats on the 2020/2021 crop year and developing a strategic plan to avoid food imports.
